do you know where to visit in Hokkaido?

Hi Reader,

I just came back to Switzerland yesterday from my New Year holiday in Japan.

Taking a long-haul flight with a 12-month-old baby was wild... I’m exhausted. And super jet lagged.

BUT, I don’t forget what’s important. Sending you my weekly Hokkaido tips!

I keep saying this, but Hokkaido is BIG. You can’t cover everywhere with one trip.

My tip is to focus on one region or two that you find most interesting.

So I'll walk you through each major region to help you find out where that is for you. Let's dive in!

Eastern Hokkaido

  • Ideal for: adventurous travelers, nature lovers, onsen lovers, seafood lovers, hidden gem seekers
  • Major designations: Shiretoko, Akan, Abashiri, Lake Kussharo, Lake Mashu, Kushiro, Kitami, Obihiro
  • How many days to spend: 5-7 days
  • Airports: Memanbetsu Airport and Kushiro Airport

Central Hokkaido

  • Ideal for: Hokkaido first-timers, families, non-drivers
  • Major designations: Sapporo, Otaru, Noboribetsu, Jozankei, Lake Toya, Lake Shikotsu, and Niseko
  • How many days to spend: 4-5 days for Sapporo and two other places
  • Airport: Asahikawa Airport

Northern Hokkaido

  • Ideal for: flower lovers, photo lovers, families
  • Major designations: Furano, Biei and Asahikawa
  • How many days to spend: 3-4 days
  • Airport: Asahikawa Airport

Southern Hokkaido

  • Ideal for: foodies, non-drivers
  • Major designation: Hakodate
  • How many days to spend: 2-3 days
  • Airport: Hakodate Airport

Which region do you want to visit? Hit reply and let me know!

(My favorite? Of course, Eastern Hokkaido, my hometown region.)

Best,
Yuuka
